You can introduce a concept using the Board Kit during your lecture, then put students to work in twos or threes with the desk-sized version of the same kit. Each includes background information and a worksheet that guides students through assembling various structures, enacting processes, and answering questions about the topic. In addition we offer the Kelp Forest Food Web Desk Kit to promote understanding of one of the richest of the ocean ecosystems. Each Desk Kit comes in a vinyl envelope suitable for storage and consists of two solid 8 1/2" by 11" sheets which must be cut out using regular scissors. Dry-erase markers may be used on this material and will erase.

Macromolecules Desk Kit

Students build carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids and enact replication and transcription. An ATP molecule can also be formed and lose a phosphate to release its stored energy. Assembling the structures leads to understanding and retention!

Protein Synthesis Desk Kit

Students use eight tRNA's with their amino acids to demonstrate translation. "Codon" and "anticodon" labels cans be applied to the appropriate areas. Cell Membrane Desk Kit

Makes a super-abstract concept concrete!
Students investigate cell transport using the phospholipid bilayer, ion channels (one can be an aquaporin if desired), cholesterol molecules, and sodium-potassium pump, ions, water molecules, glucose, oxygen and carbon dioxide. Kelp Forest Food Web Desk Kit

Produced in response to teacher requests, this kit shows organisms of the Pacific coast kelp forest. Students arrange them into food chains on a magnetic markerboard and then interconnect them into a food web. Kit includes 20 different organisms plus four kelp pieces to assemble, interesting background information on natural history and feeding habits of the organisms, suggestions for use and further research, and a key showing an assembled food web. Magic Wall Marker Boards

This 12" by 18" glossy white markerboard has a one inch grid on one side and is plain white on the other. The grid is convenient for graphing data using a dry erase marker. Desk Kit pieces can be placed on the Magic Wall Markerboard, allowing presentation to the class or display.
